Maureen Ellis is a leading international authority on biosafety, biocontainment and biosecurity. She is currently serving as the Director of International Programs at MCE Biosafety Consulting and Executive Director of the IFBA. Ms Ellis previously worked for the G8 Global Partnership Program to deliver programs designed to prevent bioterrorism and terrorists from acquiring dangerous biological materials in Russia, Central Asia & Africa. She was also Canada’s Director of the Centre for Biosecurity and WHO Collaborating Centre for Biosafety where she was responsible for developing and implementing biosafety and biocontainment programs, policies and legislation both nationally and around the globe. As Director, Biohazard Containment for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, M. Ellis developed biosafety programs for the control of animal and plant pathogens in Canada. She is a Past-President of both the Canadian and American Biological Safety Associations. In 2007, she was awarded the Arnold G. Wedum Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to biosafety. She is the first Canadian to receive such an award. M. Ellis holds a Masters Degree in Microbiology from University of Ottawa.
