Dr. Aamer graduated in 1987 and earned is qualified Diploma in Pathology (1990), MCPS (1991), Fellowship in Clinical Microbiology (1998), clinical training in the UK (2005) and PhD in Microbiology (2014). He accomplished his Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety followed by the Diploma in Disaster Management.
Dr. Aamer has excelled in the fields of biosafety, biosecurity, dual-use safety and infection control, accomplishing a wide range of courses from renowned universities including Harvard, Oxford, South Florida, Iowa, Chester, Bradford, and workshops from UN, WHO, CDC, ASM and ABSA. He has completed a one year certificate course in emerging infectious diseases from University of Iowa and later the ‘Dual-use Biosecurity’ master trainer course from Bradford University. Dr. Aamer is the first Pakistani to be a Registered Biosafety Professional with the ABSA, a Biosafety Level 2 Professional with the Institute of Safety in Technology & Research, and an IFBA Certified Professional. In 2012, he was awarded FRCP by the Royal College Edinburgh and in 2014 the FRCPath from Royal College of Pathologists in London. Dr. Aamer holds multiple portfolios including: President Pakistan Biological Safety Association; President Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan; HEC Focal Point of Expertise under National Research Programme for Universities; Convener Microbiology PHRC; and member several National Working Groups. He is actively involved in academic and research activities, has been Chief Editor of Infectious Diseases Journal Pakistan, and is among the editorial board of renowned national and international journals. He has over one hundred and fifty publications. Dr. Aamer was selected as the International Ambassador by Society Healthcare Epidemiology of America and was conferred the ‘Biosafety Heroes Award’ by IFBA in 2011. He currently holds the position of Executive Director of National Institute of Health Pakistan.
