From November 10–14, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s (MMUST) Bachelor of Science in Biosafety & Biosecurity program hosted guest experts from Air Filter Maintenance Services (AFMS) for a series of hands-on lectures and practical sessions on laboratory biocontainment and biosafety cabinets. The sessions provided MMUST students with the opportunity to gain practical experience and guidance in designing biocontainment laboratories and certifying biosafety cabinets. These two courses, offered in the third year of the program for the first cohort of students, provide hands-on, in-person lectures, reinforcing MMUST’s commitment to high-quality, experiential learning.

Reflecting on the week, Moses Njihia, a member of student cohort, remarked “It was a very insightful and inspiring time, learning directly and interacting with the AFMS team. I can honestly say that we had a great time learning from their wealth of industry knowledge and experience”

Our sincere thanks go to AFMS’s Awie van Rensburg and Vutomi Chauke for sharing their extensive experience and real-world insights, enriching the learning experience for students. The program is grateful to NuAire for their generous donation of a biosafety cabinet, which has made these interactive sessions possible.
