The International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA) and women champions from across the ASEAN region hosted a workshop on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Biosafety Association’s annual conference in Manila, Philippines, to officially launch the ASEAN Women’s Network for Biosafety and Biosecurity. Workshop participants discussed topics connecting gender to biosafety and biosecurity across the ASEAN health security landscape, generating key priorities which will steer the new Network’s formal structure and scope.

In the African region, the IFBA and the Women’s Network for the Global Partnership’s SIMBA Initiative participated in African Women Leaders: Frontiers in Biosafety and Biosecurity to Prevent the Next Pandemics hosted at the Center for Africa’s Resilience to Epidemics in Dakar, Senegal. In addition to providing training, the Women’s Network officially unveiled their Terms of Reference outlining short-, medium-, and long- term goals and the results of a stakeholder mapping exercise to sustainably support women in biosafety and biosecurity across Africa.

The IFBA and Women’s Networks are grateful to the ongoing support from the European Union, Global Affairs Canada, and other Global Partnership members.
