Do I require a visa to enter Tanzania and attend the conference?
Participants attending the Global Voices conference who require a visa for entry into Tanzania, are strongly encouraged to obtain their visa in advance by applying online through the official Tanzania Immigration Services Department website. A list of countries whose citizens do not require a visa are listed here. Applicants must ensure that their passports have a validity of at least six months and at least one unused visa page before submitting their application. While standard visa applications are usually processed within ten days, some applications may require more processing time.
Special Note: Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for travelers arriving from yellow fever endemic countries, or, for travelers with a long flight connection/transit (12 hours or more) in yellow fever endemic countries.
Referral Visas
A list of countries whose citizens require a special “referral visa” are listed here. Referral visas take longer to process and require additional supporting documentation including a letter of support from the host organization addressed to the Commissioner General of Immigration. All participants requiring a referral visa should contact the IFBA Secretariat at least 2 months in advance at Secretariat@internationalbiosafety.org.
What type of eVisa should I apply for?
Most conference participants will apply for an “Ordinary Single-Entry Visa”. This visa is granted to foreign nationals for the purposes of tourism and attending a conference. Its validity does not exceed 90 days for a single entry. However, due to bilateral agreements between Tanzania and the USA, citizens holding a passport issued by the United States are only permitted to apply for a ‘Multi-Entry Visa”, even if they enter Tanzania for a single entry.
