Gábor Kemenesi is an Associate Professor at the University of Pécs, Hungary, and the Director of the National Laboratory of Virology. He has over a decade of experience in emerging infectious diseases and working in BSL-3 and BSL-4 environments. He and his team were the first to isolate the European filovirus, Lloviu virus. Involved in international projects, he focuses on capacity building and early warning systems against emerging diseases in South Asia, Europe, and North Africa. His laboratory operates Europe’s newest BSL-4 facility, serving as a regional research hub for Central-Eastern Europe, the Balkans and beyond.
