Tarja Sironen is a professor of emerging infectious diseases at the faculties of medicine and veterinary medicine in the University of Helsinki, Finland. She serves as the vice-dean for the faculty of veterinary medicine and leads the Helsinki One Health network. Her research focuses on zoonotic pathogens spilling over from bats and rodents to domestic animals and people. The main goal of her research is to understand the drivers of disease emergence and outbreaks, to find solutions to mitigate infectious disease risks.
