On May 10, 2024, the IFBA, together with an delegation of international partners, were pleased to participate in the official launch ceremony for Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s new Bachelor of Science in Biosafety & Biosecurity. The event activities were presided over by the Chair of the Governing Council, Dr. Pamela Sitienei, the Chief Guest, Jemimah Onsare, representing the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and MMUST’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Mutai. The day began with an official tree planting ceremony in recognition of National Tree Planting Day to remember those who lost their lives in the recent Kenyan floods. In addition to formally unveiling the new BSc Biosafety Biosecurity academic program, MMUST’s new strategic plan was also launched during the event. A congratulatory letter was presented to the Vice Chancellor from the President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia for MMUST’s leadership in preparing the next generation of biosafety & biosecurity professionals.
