Judith Chukwuebinim Okolo
IFBA ECC Member (Nigeria)
Organization: National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA)
Current Field/Position: I am an Assistant Chief Scientific Officer working in the Biosafety and Risk Management Unit, of the Environmental Biotechnology and Bio-Conservation Department of NABDA. I am also a Doctoral Student at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in Nigeria, conducting research on food preservation using edible and biofilms.
Special Interests: My interest is in promoting biosafety, food safety, and nutrition security which all have links to global health. As globalization and production of food increases, there is high risk of food borne diseases. Applying biosafety and biosecurity to agricultural systems, especially livestock farming, is important, and present research in this area is extremely interesting to me.
What Attracted You to the ECC?: From experience, gender inequality in communities and organizations forestalls progress and hampers opportunities. I am invested In creating an effective system in global biosafety that is unbiased, where qualified professionals are not subject to discrimination due to their gender, age, or race. This would ultimately achieve a system where all have opportunity to equal outcomes.
