Alfred Alinda Khamala

IFBA Fellow

Alfred Alinda Khamala is a Senior Biosafety Officer and Molecular Laboratory Officer at the National Biosafety Authority–Kenya. He is a highly credentialed biosafety and biotechnology professional with extensive certifications from the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA) and the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB). Alfred is an IFBA Certified Professional in both Biorisk Management, Biological Risk Assessment, BSC Cabinets Selection, Installation and Safe Use, and a 2023 IFBA Youth Fellow. He also serves as a technical consultant supporting IFBA programs and initiatives.
Further, he is certified in PCR technologies, food safety, environmental risk assessment, biosafety regulatory frameworks, and containment strategies, among others.
Alfred holds an MSc in Molecular Biology and is currently pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI). His technical expertise spans GMO risk assessment, biosafety compliance, molecular diagnostics, and laboratory quality systems.

With a strong background in laboratory operations, public awareness, and regulatory oversight, Alfred plays a key role in advancing biosafety standards in Kenya and beyond. He is an active member of IFBA and BMAK, contributing to capacity building and policy development in biosafety and biotechnology governance.
