Geofrey Jagero

Local IFBA Representative

Geofrey Jagero is the IFBA-MMUST Project local consultant, the current President of the Biorisk Management Association of Kenya, and an adjunct lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MMUST).

At MMUST, Geofrey oversees the Signature Initiative to mitigate biological threats in Africa (SIMBA)’s flagship project on biosafety biosecurity. His roles include, but are not limited to, providing advice and guidance to the BSBS program through the established BSBS program committee and MMUST university executive leadership in support of the ongoing successful delivery of the program through to the graduation of the inaugural student cohort; Assisting the Acting Program Coordinator with student co-op placements and mentorship site visits to institutions across Africa; Facilitating guest lecturers to co-teach with MMUST staff, share real-world experiences, and provide students with deeper understanding and insight into the latest developments in the field; Delivering capacity-building workshops and training for program staff and lecturers; Participating in a benchmarking visits to gain insights and identify opportunities for program improvement; and Strengthening the foundation for long-term program sustainability, including documenting lessons learned and providing recommendations for successful implementation of similar programs in other countries across Africa.

At BMAK, Geofrey provides oversight in the implementation of Laboratory Biosecurity upgrades for Kenyan laboratories handling high-consequence agents and toxins, a project funded by the US Department of State through the Health Security Partners. He also consults for the Africa CDC on capacity building workshops in Biorisk management within AU member states.

Geofrey holds a master’s degree in Global Health & infectious diseases and several IFBA Professional certifications and is an Africa CDC Regional Subject Matter Expert (Af-RSME) in Biorisk Management.
