OUR PROFILE

The International Federation of Biosafety Associations is pleased to spotlight our member organization, the Biosafety and Biosecurity Association of South Sudan.

The BBASS was established in June 2021 to function by supporting Africa CDC’s continental Biosafety & Biosecurity initiative to strengthen systems of African Union member states to comply with IHR 2005, Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 and GHSA action Package (APP3). BBASS objectives are to:
i. Develop a biosafety and biosecurity legal framework for South Sudan
ii. Establish national secretariats to coordinate and monitor the implementation activities
iii. Establish a regulatory and certification framework for institutions handling high risk pathogens, and
iv. Strengthen National Public Health Institutions/Laboratories and capacities to prevent, detect and respond to Public Health Emergencies of International Concern in South Sudan and participate in regional biosafety and biosecurity activities.
v. Develop a strategic plan for biosafety and biosecurity for South Sudan with timeframes and implementing matrix and monitoring

BBASS’ current activities include:
a. Seeking a rental space near ministries complex for easy cooperation and visibility to other agencies and government institutions.
b. Processing registration and license of operation as biosafety and biosecurity promoting agency in the country and the region.
c. Inspiring and involving nationals and other institution of the same minds who will help promote the prevention, detection and responding to Public Health Emergency of International Concern and to work together to create awareness and conduct needs assessment to establish the gaps in issues of biosafety and biosecurity in South Sudan.
d. And of whom when opportunity strike, will be able to participate in regional training and certification by the IFBA.
